A buddy of mine has a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 long box diesel and is looking at buying a camper for it. The problem is he can't find the maximum payload for the truck to get the big camper. All he can find is the towing capacity.

No plate on the door and no owners manual.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Grump...tell him to take his truck to a scale and weight the whole truck. Subtract this from the GVWR to see how much weight he can add to his truck.

If he were to be pulled over and checked, they would actually weigh both axles, so have him weigh front axle and subtract from Front GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) and then weigh the rear axle and subtract from Rear GAWR. These 2 numbers (Fr & Rr GAWR) will add up to more than his GVWR which is good, you can haul more than your GVWR.GVWR & GAWR's will be on the door or door post.
