Yeah, I guess you have to cheer for inaccurate facts when your team is 30 points behind and battling for the worst team in the league status again for the 3rd strait year and 6 in a row with no playoffs.

I thought you guys got a sugar daddy owner who was going to lead you back to the glory days, but now all he is doing is taking money from the Edmonton tax payers to line his own pocket?

Are you that jealous of the Alberta economy...............Now ,i see where your bitterness comes from..............
So buy slamming our hockey team, arena, owner, trucks we drive ETC,ETC, this will put more dollars in your pocket...lol Just move to Alberta, time you get settled in,the young oilers will be well on there way to their 6th CUP.
It will inspire you,if you have never had your team win a cup before...................

Just looked up the stats , been a couple weeks since i last looked. Ebs seems to be in some pretty damn good company ranked 10th overall in pts, but an interesting twist to this is his penalty min... a whopping 8 min out of 72 games played...........can you say Lady Byng trophy candidate for sure.........and well Hopkins... a full 21 games less played then his counterpart Gabriel Landeskog and leading him by 1 point, if Nuge had not of screwed his shoulder he would be ahead by a long shot, hes a 1.88 points per game average player, and doesnt even have half half of the total shots that Gabs has taken this year, dont believe me go here :

Anyways, this thread was about the current Oilers, not about the Oilers of the 80's, or even 2006.

StompinTom - I don't care how great you feel Vancouver is, until they win a cup they will be a contendor. It hasn't been a long time either that they have been exciting for Vancouver fans to watch either. Like I said, I lived there for a number of years when there was nothing to be excited about for a Vancouver fan, I would og to games even if it wasn't an Edmonton/Vancouver game for the simple fact I loved watching hockey. The worst thing about going to a Vancouver game as the fact that %50 of the people in that areana had no idea what hockey was, pretty sure they didn't speak English, but they could afford to pay for tickets, it was more of a status thing to go to a game, not for the love of the game. I really started to hate the Canucks then. Their team wasn't built on true passion and surrounded by fans who loved them. It was built around a bunch of people who thought it was cool to hang out at GM place. Good on the Canucks for doing well as a team...but not a team I would ever chear for.

Then to attack the Oilers because of the city of Edmonton. Are you a TSN analyst? You sound like it. I have never lived in Edmonton, I have spent time there, it is what it is. Players who don't want to play there don't choose the Oilers because of the ability to play hockey in Tampa, or Anaheim. Lets see, I can make $4million a year living in sunny Florida, date my puck bunny beach babe, or live in Edmonton where I only see a beach during the all star break for the same money. Ohhh hard choice. Players who love to play in Edmonton do so for the love of the game. Yeah the paycheck helps. But there are players in the past few seasons who have outright said they want to remain here. Are they of superstar staus? Not really, but there is a willingness to play in Edmonton. It could be worse, there is always Winnipeg!

rzrgade - its pointless to argue with the likes of someone who's team is doing well now. Its simple to see, Vancouver is doing well. They really are a contendor. I don't like the style of hockey they play, I don't like their fan base, I don't even like their city. Yes they are doing well, they are doing better than Edmonton and the Oilers haven't enjoyed success for a number of years. Yes we get excited over players like RNH and Eberle, even Hall. Yes there was once Gagne/Cogliano/Nillson but I never ever have liked Gagne, Nillson was always an under achiever and I felt Cogliano would have a break out season but it never came. Very fast player, but no hands. That line was always too small. Hall/RNH/Eberle is still small as it should be they shouldn't all play together. Eberle/RNH need a big winger, a true #1 winger.

I'll pick my favorite to win the Cup right now this year. St.Louis. I have watched a few of their games this year. They play very hard on the puck and win almost every battle along the boards. Going to be a very hard team to score against as well. Boston/St.Louis final.

Edmonton will play themselves out of 2nd pick overall if they keep up the good work. They will be picking 5th or 6th at this pace. Toronto might even pick ahead of Edmonton.

Most of what you say i agree with.........ALL teams have their hi and low points over the years,i agree. However in our HIGH cycle we won 5 cups,ALMOST 7. So when you compare them to the nucks over the years, 42 in fact for the canucks it does be come relative, imo. It is pretty easy to see which is the better team, now.

That is not the point however, which is the oilers have gathered up some young players that are going to be some of the best in the league !!Nilson ,cogs, gagne, were not #1 picks or have that history.......Now ,Hall,RNH,Ebbs HAVE the track record ,LONG before the oilers drafted them,so how can anyone say this is oilers hype ??????????????????

The constant bashing of Edmonton is obviosly deep rooted in several areas other than hockey , as put forward by my good friend Tom...........
As for getting players to play in Edmonton..........lol.
There are more or less two reasons, players play hockey:
#1 To make lots of money.
#2 To have there name engraved on the stanly cup.
The oilers can afford #1 quite easilly..........If you put up the numbers ,you get LOTS of #1,and a better chance at #2 in your carreer.
Now untill you have a legit shot at #2 ,no one is banging on your door to play, That is untill you get ,through the draft enough potential to turn it around and build for the cup run ! Picture this, who would not want to play for the Oilers in a few years with EBBS ,HALL,NUGE,GRIGORENKO (?) etc etc. I am thinking if i want to add points to my game,in a couple of years from now who has the most upside to do that? That combo will give you lot`s of points (#1) and a good shot at #2 as well..............

The point is the nucks have(are?) in the high cycle right now, with little youth, as well as a lack of any quality players to replace the older vets...The older guys are not good enough ,and don`t have enough heart/grit to win the cup, that is so painfully obvious right now. So in the not too distant future, the cycle will reverse as allways...............

In fact this does have little to do with the older glory oilers. However , that being said ,one FACT is undisputable, when we had the horses ,we made it bloody well count !!!! We iced one of the greatest hockey teams of all time, right here in Edmonton ...............................

Nope, not disagreeing with anything you said. I agree there is the potential to draw high quality players to Edmonton over the next few seasons.

I would also still suspect Edmonton picks around 5th if they keep it up. That won't be Grigorenko. There isn't a huge selection of players after the top 5 that are stand out players. None that are likely NHL ready. So that 5th pick still likely gets traded for immediate help. Otherwise you take the best player available. Jacob Trouba (D) or maybe a Griffin Reinhart (D) and they might not even see the big club for 2-3 years. I don't think there is anyway possible Ryan Murray is still available by the 5th pick either. If they do still pick second or third overall, then yes I take a chance on Grigorenko or take Ryan Murray who is likely the most NHL ready.

I do find it funny that an Oilers fan taking shots, a team that hasnt seen the playoffs in how many years? A team that has been the worst in the NHL for how many years? A team that hired Canucks castoffs to run the team, taking shots at a team that went to the 7th game in the cup finals and is a paltry 30 some points ahead of the Oilers in the standings again. Yeah, Ill take my 4 rounds in the playoffs rather than having to live on the hopes that one day the kids might be able to make the playoffs. Best of luck to you.
kinda like living on the hopes that your team will someday win a cup? chin up, every dog has his day. this dog's had FIVE :first:
