you should be able to get a cheap one that will tell you the codes only for under 200 bucks.

I got one from crappy tire on sale for $79.99 a while ago and it shows me the code and I find it in the supplied book!! It was cheap and is very easy to use!!

Princess Auto had a $99.00 unit on sale for $53.00, works great for reading engine and emissions codes....just wish it would read the ABS codes....

they were sold out when I went in there last week. NAPA has one on sale thats supposed to be a good unit for $59.00....gonna check it out. The boy took his car up town as a code popped up and they charged him $60 bucks to read a code to let him know a $15 relay was shot....guess we'll buy our own code reader as well!
