I'm using this snowy day to do my taxes. The situation I have is that I work in slave lake which is in a northern zone but I live outside the northern zone. I believe that means I cannot claim any northern living or travel expenses. My t4 has 4000 in box 32 (travel in a prescribed zone), not sure what that means?

Last year we did our taxes through an accountant and she gave us the northern living deductions. I'm trying to explain to my pregnant hormonal wife that we can't claim any northern deductions but she won't believe me! Am I right?

Are you talking about subsistence? If so u shouldn't have to claim it as income if you can prove you have a primary residence

Northern living allowanance is to give a break to the higher living expenses in the North. You have have a residence in the north to get it. it is per residence not per person. You have to show receipts for rent/mortgage and normal bills.
