Anyone have one? I'm considering trading in my VortexMax for a new Hemi. Looking for something a bit heavier. How is the new hemi for towing? Did the mileage get better than the older ones?

The new hemi has plenty of power for towing. When driven nice I heard that a 2500 can get 19mpg? Not sure if that's true, but my mom gets 22mpg with her 2011 1500 that's not even broken in yet.

I have a new 2500 hemi. Enough power for pulling up to 8000 lbs I would say. Anymore and it is working pretty hard. Definately nothing like a diesel but mine gets pretty good mileage and it only have 7000 kms. I get easily get 17-18.5 mpg highway empty. When towing that is a different question like 11-12.5 mpg towing my 4500 lb boat but for 15,000 buck less than a diesel that buys alot of fuel, plus it actually gets warm in the winter time.

I had a new 2500 with the hemi for a courtesy vehicle while my GM was getting repaired from a deer strike, they sure do have a lot of jam. my only complaint was that it rides like a fawking lumber wagon. going from a GM to a Dodge, you will most certainly notice the difference in ride. they also seem to have problems with exhaust manifold studs, the one I got only had 12,000 kms on it and already sounded like an old 454 with a broken exhaust manifold.

It pulls my 24' trailer like its not even there. Getting 21 - 23 mpg depending on how I drive. They give a decent ride but not as nice as the GM's. I am really happy with mine.

I don't think the 2500 has the MDS that the 1500's do so the milage would be a lot lower

You will want a 2010 or newer 2500, they ride signifcantly better than the previous model years and have a full size crew cab in those years or newer as well. My gears are the 3.73 i believe and i really love the truck. Had diesels the last previous six years and get sick of dealing with the winter stuff as well as worrying about costly repairs on those things plus maintenance.

Thanks for the replies. I know I'll be sacrificing ride, not too worried about that, my work truck is a 1 ton ford and they are the worst I think. I'm trying to lean away from buying one but this isn't helping

I had a 2010, with hemi, cylinder deactivation, and the best I got empty was 14l/100km or 16mpg. That was doing 110km on the hiway.
Also if you plan on selling it anytime soon, they drop very fast and there are about 2million for sale so resale sucks.
PPL say they tow/haul okay but if you have or used to have a diesel it doesn't feel like it tows/hauls that good!
Thats just my opinion, cheers

That must of been a 1/2 ton then,3/4 ton trucks do not have MDS and it isn't available on 3/4 tons.

diesel option is $9,000 you must be comparing a 1500 hemi, which is not anywhere near the same. Also, keep it 4-5 years you will get that entire $9,000 back in resale. A 2500 hemi used isn't worth anything.

14 L/100 kms is 20.14 MPG so pretty good. To figure out Canadian miles per gallon just take 282.48 and divide that by your litres per 100 kms. You guys are probably figuring out American miles per gallon which is obviously not the same.

You are correct the diesel option is 9000 dollars but the tranny is more and so are a few other things plus there are also larger rebate on the hemi versus the diesel so you cannot just look at the cost of the diesel and that is the only difference because it is not. Trust me I know what I am talking about. I work at a Dodge dealer and have been doing this for a long time.
