After searching around, if you had your choice of area to ride for a few days, which destination would you choose?
1.Whitefish/Kalispell
2.Big Sky
3.Cooke City

We are looking at heading to different locations. We want to try new areas and are tired of fighting the huge crowds in the Valemount area.

I listed Big Sky #1. I include a few different areas in that. Big Sky, the town its self is a ski resort town up on the mountain, it has overpriced everything. Not at all a snowmobile friendly town. The Big Sky area I would break down into riding areas.
1. Portal Creek, small area I don't know at all, it was reduced in size a while back for a wilderness study area. The good riding there got closed down. Less crowds.
2. Buck Creek, just a few miles past the Big Sky turn off. Really good area, parking is right at a bar/motel. You can basically ride up to the Yellowstone Club ski area boundary.
3. Taylor Fork, just before you enter Yellowstone National Park on HWY 191. Area is large and has a great variety of riding for all skill levels, it is a really popular area.
4. Teepee Basin, Cabin Creek. they share the same trail in, just depends on which way you go, good riding as well and is a popular spot for folks coming out of West Yellowstone to ride. That is where you will find the most options for food and lodging. West also connects into Island Park ID, Two top Mountain, and Lions Head.

Cooke is awesome, more similar to the alpine stuff in Canada. But its a small area, but can get huge dumps of snow. 20 inches in the past 2 days with more in the forecast. The town has what you need, Soda Butte Lodge look at the live web cams, it pretty much shows the whole town.

Can't help out on the Kalispell stuff, I do know some of the riding is off of the Hungry Horse Dam road.
