What about Plateau Mountain? Looks like some sort of reserve so likely not technically allowed to ride there but honestly, what the heck kind of damage can a sled realistically do when there's enough snow to make it even worth attempting to ride there?

It's attitudes like this that is getting areas closed down.
Please do us sled sees a big favour and sell your sled.

Haha, another keyboard warrior! Nice post, sir Lancelot. Anyway, the entire reason I came on here is to find out what is allowed and what is not. If you read the rest of the thread you would have realized this. I was simply pointing out that sleds don't really hurt anything (so long as there are not too many animals being disturbed by the noise). Did I say I would go ride there, no. If it's closed, it's closed. I can accept that and continue driving to BC to have my fun. The reason I brought it up is because it looks like a high area and might have decent snow but looks off limits. And if it is, so be it. But if not, then it may be an option. Do I still BELIEVE that you can ride a sled in a reserve area without damaging anything - of course! Will I actually ride there if I'm not allowed - OF COURSE NOT! Anyway, glad to see the sledding community has someone with this level of class attempting to represent them. A scholar and a gentleman!

Sledding areas do not get closed down because of user attitudes and in most cases not because of physical evidence of damage to the area by sleds. It's mostly political decisions based on prejudices and misinformation.

No, but access that is close to closed areas that are constantly being trespassed in, end up with those areas being closed as well. See the Blue a River forum for an example of that. And yes it is mostly political, and giving people any kind of excuse just makes it easier to close more stuff.

30 years ago you could of driven just about anywhere you could get to. Jasper National Park had designated snowmobile trails in the early 70s. We akll feel your pain in trying to have BC riding in Alberta. Team Green has gotten all our access taken away from us way back in the late 70s. Eastern slopes access plan was the death of sledding in the mountains. That was one of the factors that started the Alberta Snowmobile Association way back then. This is all about giving and taking but the bad thing is more was taken from us and less given to us.
Plateau I think is in a ecological reserve so no riding.
I seen a map that had all the parks, reserves and FLUZ on it.
Its not what you want to do and think you can do its all about rules and regulations. All fine and dandy until you get a Conservation Officer or fish cop that wants to get the ticket book out.

Want to ride like in BC my suggestion is to go to BC. They have rules and regulations also

Wish it was the early 70s again with these sleds around

Team Green spreading their false information. Crying to all the politications. Sledders need to be more vocal to their MLA. Yipping here goes nowhere. Call your MLA and voice your issues

I just want to say thank you for those who have replied here with solid info and also for keeping it classy. I fully recognize that my opinions on what should and should not be allowed have nothing to do with what is actually allowed. I also want to state that not only will I follow the rules, but will also encourage my buddies to do the same, whether we agree with them or not. For example, even though I can likely get away wit it, I will not take my studded dirt bike to MacLean as I don't want to contribute to wrecking what little good sled trails there are around here. I even got there the other day, saw the signs, and drove to waipairous instead. As a snowbiker, I now appreciate what sledders have to contend with. But also as a snowbiker you can also likely appreciate that trail riding is not where it's at but off trail powder is where these machines shine so places where you must stick to the trail don't offer much at all. In any event, I was hoping to come on here and find a LEGAL local hidden gem that had the BC pow experience without the 2+ hour drive. Clearly not happening. I can live with that but at least now I feel like I'm not missing something. Hey, you never know unless you ask, right?! ;)

LOL. I was on a first name basis with the PC MLA and I think he probably had my emails going straight to the junk folder.:d I guess it's time to get acquainted with the MLA from Notley's Damn Party.
