M7 Vs M8?

So I posted another question in a different category, questioning what used snowmobile should be my first. I was steered to the Arctic Cat M6, M7, and M8, preferably 2007+.

I am too big for the M6 (220lbs, 6'2) so I am here asking what you would buy in my shoes?

My price range is max $7000, so I of course want to get the best bang for my buck. I plan on doing field, ditch, and some mountain riding in deep powder.

What would you buy, or avoid?

2007+ eliminates M7. go with the M8 for your size, and your price can get you a good machine as well.

$7k should get you a nice 2010/2011 M8 with the HO motor, great sled. If you hunt around you could probably find a Pro or Proclimb in that price range too.

I bought a 2005 M7 for $2100. All i had to do was put the motor together. But i've seen assembled m7's go for around 2500. If you got a wife/girlfriend you could get one for each of you then have spare cash.

Just make sure you do the diamond drive bearings!

I guess Sask has cheaper pricing the Alberta. Best price I could find was $5000 for a sled with 5000kms... So expensive

if your budget is 7k 2010-11 m8 all the way. more hp and less lbs.

most sleds are overpriced right now. got my 06 m7 last year 3700, mint shape 1800 miles.

Keep shopping. You should easily be able to get a 08-11 m8 with 2000ish Kms within your price range. Myself and bogger both as out 07's that were both in that km range for 5k last year. Just keep your eyes out. There are deals around

You could step up and buy my 09 m1000 with slp pipe kit and have enough cash for another sled...lol Than I can afford my snowchecked m8000

The m8 would be my choice over the m7, you'll love the power and how sweet it handles.

Would be a good buy, but I'm in Calgary AB and do enough driving as it is for work lol.

Boondocker fuel controller to adjust for changing altitudes???? Stock EFI does that already! Needs speedometer cable replaced???? M7 doesn't have one. It's electronic!

or its the reason its a 2006 with 1500 Kms on it........ maybe the speedo no worky or it was unplugged for a while?

M1000 too much sled for a beginner. Buy an M8

just like everyone is saying, get a 10-11 M8. You get a great handling reliable pull and go sled, and for a decent price usually. Its not the newest iron but I have no trouble going everywhere the xm's and proclimbs go with my 2010. And they should be well within your price range seeing as a year ago I bought mine for 6500.

I sold my 2010 M8 sno pro with ~1200kms and a virtually new 2.6" powerclaw on it this spring for $6100 for what its worth. Keep looking, you'll find one.

Friend of mines M8. Essentially still new and he would love to get rid of it. Bet he would be willing to meet part way too. 10 hrs from Dawson Creek (Watson Lake)

I think you can probalbly get a new in the crate 11 at Don's Speed Parts for roughly 1000 above your budget. He also has 2012 proclimb's in the crate for around $8900. Just a thought if you want to spend a little more cash.
