Looking for a power tie in point for EGT gauge

I tried a spot behind the steering post but its not working properly,it seems to be intermitent and the connections are good and tight. Can someone out there help me with this THANKS. Oh I have a 09 m1000

I had a hard time with mine, seemed like it wanted to kill the engine wherever I took power from. Switched my ground to the block and problem solved. I took it from behind the plate but tried the back up beeper too before finding out about the ground.
