I live in the east kootenays and own an Iridium 9555. Used it up in the mountains while snowing/cloud covered and it worked good. Jut try to stay in one spot when you get your highest signal strength. I have even used it from inside our house while facing our living room window which looks south into the Elk Valley. Costly investment? Yes, but I can't put a cost on the safety of my family when in the back country which is where we hang out most months of the year. Hope this helps.
