Technology is such a fast moving market that soon they will have a unit incorporated into a backpack and recreational vehicles.

Why they dont already is beyond me.
One of my buddies picked up a 2018 poo 800. It has a GPS on the dash. And like the rhinos it can be linked up to find the location of other Polaris sleds with this same feature.
That would be cool if all manufacturers got on board with that idea and used the same tech so you can find your lost buddy quicker and easier no matter what brand hes on.

That the biggest failure of the inreach or the spot-x is to be able to display the location of other people.

Yet the Rhinos can find other rhinos locations. But have no real sos features like the spot or inreach.
It would be so nice to have an all in one unit.

For the lock to be unlocked and the SOS button to be held down at the same time is a little bit of a stretch. Apparently, it has happened if it isn't fake news.

I'm not worried about the lock on mine being unlocked as it is stored in it's own pocket with nothing else close.

Wife got me the inreach for Christmas. Just been messing around with it in the yard and it seems to be working as stated. Have found it more useful without my phone as I dont care for carrying two devices but that could change as my application changes

I think the bigger issue is that you can "lock" the older inreach devices, but the SOS button still worked.

Really?? I'm not really in the know and that is the first I've heard of that. I've never tried mine to test it. Can you enlighten me a little more please?
The linked article above states that there were issues with many DeLorme InReach SE and InReach Explorer units, which were released in 2014 and discontinued in 2017. Apparently you can lock them, but still activate SOS as you normally would. THe Garmin InReach SE+ and InReach Explorer+ don't seem to have the same issue.

I'm with ferniesnow on this. I've had a spot for 9 years. last year I've had 5 messages from squamish to kananaskis that have not gone through. The other thing that chaps my ass with spot is their plan. I used to be 100 bucks a year. Then one day I notice it is not 160 (us). Everyone now has to pay for the trace feature. Try to cancel but you need to do at minimum one month and a day before it autorenews. Also no way to cancel online. Must call in.

Needless to say I just picked up an inreach se+. Maps, two way comms, and hopefully less dead spots.
