Looking for some info on the riding around the bighorn dam , and abraham lake area, never been around that area and was wondering how the trails are up that way, and If they are all open at the end of june/july long weekend.
Also looking for any tips on getting there, im hauling a 40 foot toyhauler so was wondering about the roads getting into the place , if they are manageable with a unit that big. thanks for any replies fellas

The roads into Big Horn are really good. No worries about your trailer. Stop at the Hotel in Nordegg and pick up a free Bighorn backcountry 2011 map. Or download off the SRD site (srd.alberta.ca)

The trails are tightly patrolled and regulated. Joyce creek and the North Ram trails open July 1st. Make sure you have insurance, & registration as you will get checked out there.

The sights are worth the trip but be prepared to deal with crazy dust when it's dry.

Are the trails across the dam open yet? Planning on going for a day trip this Saturday and wanted to do the loop that leads up to the top of the mountain where Joyce trail starts.

Thanks

We were there this weekend...the place was really quite...kinda weird, but nice. The trails are awesome for a dirt bike or sport quad, not so much fun for an XMR, cause there's no mud anywhere. It's really dry and dusty, but the scenery is amazing. I rode my WR450 all weekend and had a gas. We camp down on the river, which is around 6km off the highway. I pull a 40' toyhauler with a Freightliner, over 34000lbs loaded, and have zero issues getting in and out. It's a nice family ride, well worth the trip...my 8 year old daughter rode her DS90 all day.

It's all good...everything's safe, so there's no need to panic. No need for anybody to drive all that way, I've already done it for all of us. I will continue to take one for the team every second weekend until freeze-up, just the kind of guy I am. The water turned from a brilliant blue last fall, to an emerald green this spring. I'll do up a report and post it for all to see.

1st pic is last fall, 2nd is last weekend.

Good on ya Gary, but it's hard for me to take anybody's word anymore...I think I'll risk it and come look for myself.
