How many miles before you do a precautionary rebuild?

Just realized I've got 4000 miles on my m1000. Still runs great, but is that getting into ticking time bomb territory? If not, when would you rebuild, or would you just ride it til it grenades?

Pistons and rings are cheap. I would do it before you drop a skirt or something.

just did mine, stock, parts only, gaskets, with hone is around 550. probably another 400 for labour.

Yes, it's time. Make sure you do crankshaft seals too.

I love dropping skirts, especially two right next to each other but I replaced the pistons in my m8 last year as a precautionary measure.

With 4000 I would definitely do a top end (new pistons, clean up cylinders).

I have always done new rings, pistons, and seals between 2000-3000 miles do a compression check and see what that's at, it'll tell you for sure whether or not it needs to be done but if i was you I'd do it before it's to late!
