gutting can

has anybody gutted there stock mufflers on there sleds does it do the same trick as a can will it make a good noise difference. im runnin an 02 xc 600 and my buddy might do it to his 08 rmkk 700 also.any opinions

cans usually have glass in them, i think if you do that it will sound tinny if you know what i mean

I cut about 10lbs out of a 97' 700rmk back in the day. it was filled with expanded metal, and packing.....10lbs was only 70% of it. mine was not too loud, but unique sounding for sure. the trick is to keep the same flow characteristics and back pressure.
