What will happen with the original road? Will it be deactivated or left accessible for emergencies?

I am not exactly sure.
I imagine some of the road will be incorporated into the below highlights

Highlights:

  • Section length: 4.8 kilometres
  • Design criteria: four lanes;100 km/h design speed
  • Alignment improvements; rock fall / avalanche hazard reduction
  • Bridges, retaining walls, rock catchment ditches
  • Wildlife protection including passage and fencing

Has anyone seen any statistics as to the reduction in travel time with all of the improvements from Kamloops to the border? It would be interesting to know what the overall improvement would be with the massive investment.

Video of sheep going thru the gate the wrong way,
The gates are supposed to allow them to get off the roadway, not onto it.....
Smart animals. LOL.

Sorry about the useless text around the picture.
This ole guy does not know how to get rid of that. Not a big deal...

** Fixed it for you. RON.

Travel time is only one part of the project. Road safety is the bigger part of it imo.

Definitely. I imagine the safety aspect is far more difficult to calculate in to meaningful data though. At least in advance. It will be interesting to see the reduction in accidents on a year over year basis after the completion of construction.

  • Major improvements to this corridor mean opening up our gateways to all of Canada and to our international trading partners with a safer, less congested corridor to facilitate more efficient movement of goods, services, and people.
  • The improved corridor will provide better access to area recreation opportunities, resulting in significant economic value and jobs to the region.
  • The Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) allows government to ensure that local people and communities get long-lasting benefits from public investments in major infrastructure projects.
  • Key benefits of the CBA include: increased apprenticeships, training opportunities, more opportunities for Indigenous communities and under-represented groups, emphasis on opportunities for local people and businesses, with wages negotiated to align with industry.

Congratulations to BC for finally constructing a road that should have been done 50 years ago. Hopefully it’s a signal the the rest of the third world road system in that province will start to get upgraded.

Trans Canada is federal jurisdiction. Feel free to stay home.
Speaking of piss poor roads the Anthony henday is a great piece of engineering. Traffic lights at both ends of a freeway....
Whitemud is also the only free way I've seen with a merge lane into the passing lane....

or you could learn to drive?
Or drive like everyone that lives in BC…..75km/hr everywhere except the left hand passing lane then you speed up to 140 until the passing lane ends….BC is a great place, just be nice to see all the taxes that everyone pays out there go to some infrastructure outside of Vancouver and the island.
