Getting back to playing in the mud after playing on the street.

I have been riding bikes (dirt and street) since I was 12 years old. I was hooked the first time I got on my 1986 XR100. Now I bought the wife the same bike I started on. I am looking to but a bike this week so I can get back into playing in the mud.
The wife and I live in Rimbey and I have been told that Medicine Lake is a great place to ride so I am hoping to get out there this week after i buy a bike.
The bikes I have owned have been: 86' XR100, 89' CR125, 89' KX125, 96' GSXR750, 01' GSXR750. Now I am looking for a 4 stroke that is a 250cc or bigger around the $1500 or cheaper price range.
