Garmin GPS-Any Issues

Looking at getting a Garmin GPS-anybody have any pros/cons on any of them. So far been searching the Oregon 500/550/600 or one of the GPSmaps 62c. Going to get the Alberta/BC backroads map for it. What are you using?

i ran the 62c now i have the rino 5watt radio/gps. work great, ihave a ram mount on the dash. works great

IRK,( Bernie), I have been using the GPS units since 1994, and have settled on the GARMIN units. (I am short on Computer skills). Currently using a Oregon 550 (discontinued) that uses the GPX Mapping format,( Garmin Base Camp), and a GPSmap 60CSx (discontinued) that uses the GDB Mapping format, (Garmin MapSource Mapping Software). I am happy with the Garmin GPS Mapping Software that is available on to-days market. None of them have all the data that one thinks they need. I have the Backroad GPS Maps SD Card, AB/BC V 2, the Garmin MapSource Canada Topo V 4, (at this time, the latest), Dale Atkin out of Calgary, (he gets his data the same place that everyone else does). ibycus Topo Canada v 2.1 and his T C V.4, and I can find most areas to my interest, on my computer, before leaving home. Along with Google Earth. With the Garmin MapSource V.4, you can copy data to your own Micro SD Cards, (not locked)
If you purchase the AB/BC Backroads GPS Maps Micro-SD Card, ask about getting the DVD as well for your computer, at adittional $25.00 (from Backroads, Vancouver). Unless you are have Great computer skills the Micro SD/ MMC Cards can not read on the computer, need CD/DVD's

Same as Bruce as far as brand of GPS. "Garmin"
Have a older 276C , Rino 5 watt, and a newer Montana 650.
All have good qualities and Garmins soft ware is good.

It's hard to beat Garmin. I run with the 60 seriries (60, 61, 62... all pretty much the same) and love them because they're completely water proof, submersible even. I also like the fact that it doesn't rely on touch screen - I can use the buttons without taking off my riding gloves and mine is usually covered in mud which would make using a touch screen difficult. I like the two way radio and buddy tracking features of the Rhino series but have shied away because of the touchscreen and the fact that they're not water proof.

Edit: My bad, the Rhino has the same water rating as the 60 series.

Love my Rino, use it all year from fishing to sledding to Quading it kicks ass, and it works fine when wet, at least it does for me and according to Garmin it is waterproof

Nice, I stand corrected. Both devices now have the same water rating on their spec sheets. ...don't believe that was the case when I was first looking at them 6 years ago.
