I'm just getting into dirtbiking, and would like to do some practice riding somewhere that isn't busy and doesn't cost me anything. I was thinking of driving a few minutes out of town and finding some dirt roads to bomb around on. My total riding experience is probably only 10 hours, so even if there isn't any hills I'm not too concerned. I'd like to get confident with the basics first (throttle, braking, shifting.)

Any ideas where to go?

McLean Creek, south west of the city has some of everything. There are lots of mellow trails to start out on, and the gravel pit is a good place to practice some short mellow climbs. You need a plate and lights so that you don't get hasseled by CO's.
