I am looking to head out to the mountains for the first time. I have quite a bit of sledding experience, but only on nicely groomed trails in SK. Can anyone recommend a good place in Golden/Revelstoke/Crowsnest to go that would be good for a beginner/intermdiate rider. I will be going with an experienced rider who does not know that area that well either, so we need some help.

Coal Creek staging area out of Fernie would be ideal. Safe without the avi danger, smooth trail, and some relatively easy tree riding. Just my $0.02

is that the trail that accesses the rollling hills area? was there along time ago alot of fun
Silent Pass is nice too. If you have ridden trails a lot you won't mind the 50 kms it takes to get in there. Nice terrain, pretty safer areas to play around in. Just not sure what the snow situation is like right now.

It leads to the Wrangler's Cabin, Rolling Hills, and the Notch. Yes, it canbe a lot of fun.....
