Exhaust manifold heat wrap / tape on a doo.

Are there any benefits to wrapping the pipe / can on a sled with manifold heat tape / wrap? Stock motor, no turbo.
Thought it might keep the heat down under the hood, and look cool!
Any negatives?

I have heard that it will keep too much heat in the pipe and reduce power. I have never tried it. I removed the clamshell and insulation on my Summit to get rid of the rust.Then I painted the pipe. It runs no different than before.
