Hey guys

I posted something like this on snowest, but I am figuring you guys may be heavy into modding as well.

I have a 04 1M with the drop and roll chaincase. The 10t drivers hang below the bellypan and are prone to hitting things like rocks, stumbs, yes ma'ams on ungroomed trails etc. I've had driveshafts bend as a result. I've bent 3 driveshafts like this since 2004.

My setup last winter was 10t drivers and 18/40 gearing. So my solution was to drop to 8t drivers giving me an extra 3/4in clearance pretty much and regear to 23/40 which according to my calculations would be pretty close in ratio to last year's setup. I would have gone 22/40 but the 72p chain was way too loose.

To help battle increase resistance due to smaller drivers, I am looking into getting an offset axle to convert my stock 6 3/8in wheels to 8in inners in the rear. In effect, that should cancel out increased resistance caue by the smaller drivers.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!
