I chased this condition all last year without a cure.
It sounds the same as most other people's complaint...
After putting around or especially after a decent, this sled falls on its face when the trigger is pulled.
It seems worse when the weather is warm and cleans right up after poking the throttle a few times before you need to go.
I have made sure the oil pump is not hanging up, the belt is tight and clutching is great everywhere.
My engaugement RPM's are good and this is my only complaint with how it runs.
The rest of the sled(air box etc) is stock.

Anybody think I could tune this stumble out with a BD control box?

Put a air horn kit in or some type of air box mod in. My wife's m7 did that and I installed a SLP big air horn kit in and ran a %100

Both my m8's are the same way. One is a 10 and other is a 09. The ten has a different air horn and its just as bad

Thanks for the tips all.
I checked the power valves, moved nice and free, cables were very close to perfect.
As to adding air box mods, I am hesitant to make things more complicated.
I'll wait to see if any one else has any input on adding a fuel box.
I am starting to think trading for a Pro may be my best solution.

The M8 and M1000 both suffer from insufficient cold intake air IMHO. I've added airbox vents to both of the unit we had, and went as far as adding a mesh hood to the 1000. Never had an issue with the dreaded "bog" after intake was opened up... just make sure you aren't running lean cruising up the trail to the alpine.

Hey, those vents look pretty good!
Because it is underhood air, it shouldnt cause too many problems in loose snow?
Maybe add one of those big openings..
How much more air can I add before I need to worry about adding more fuel?

Cheapest way is to get an Air/Fuel gauge so you don't have to guess. There is a factory harness plug in by the steering post to get power, mount the probe in the pipe and you're done, its about an hour install including welding in the bung for the probe. Cat is very generous with the fuel on these sleds, the consumer maps are very conservative. When the powervalves open its not hard to see it dipping into the 10:1's on a factory map setting. I'll find a link.

Reeds are on the list to pull out and have a look.
Can these be checked by pouring (x) amount if fluid through and timing how long it fakes to drain? It is a visual inspection the only way?
Is there a good upgrade to aftermarket reeds while I'm in there?

No fluids unless you want to fill your crankcase with fluid X. Reeds only make a positive seal against the cages as the piston is traveling down. You have to pull them and inspect them. pull the hood and pipe off and the hardest part is getting your stock intake boot out of the front and a couple bolts on the PTO side cage are tight to get at, pull the bracket off behind your clutches that your pipe sits on and your can pry the engine over to get some room to get a socket in there(if I remember right...). One of my riding partners had the same symptoms on the same sled last year, sled would load up real bad coming down hills, burble and be lazy. Found both reed cages to have some pedals with broken corners. After market reeds are like tires, everyone has a favorite so I can't help you there.

Thanks. Sounds just like my symptoms.
We used test the seal of the reeds on my big two stroke bikes by removing the reed cages and measuring how long it takes to drain x amount of water through.
I think I'll order up a set of boyesen to have on hand when I remove.

My 09 m1000 was doing this and I replaced the reeds with Tony Doukas turbo racing reeds, which I got from ghostrider motor sports in Fernie. When we got my reeds out they did not have any chips or pedals missing but we changed them anyways and they cleaned it right up, it almost even seemed to idol better meaning did not shake as bad!
