2017 all stock except Jaws BigShark pipe/Y-pipe w/boondocker controller.
Sled starts and runs 100% of the time, runs amazing pulling hard at 8400rpm for a few minutes of steady hard deep snow pulls etc but once really running hot and under heavy load at wide open throttle it can bog out, (sounds terrible and feels worse, almost like on one jug, or suffocating from plugged air intakes, even think I smell fuel so may still be throwing extra fuel?), anyways, from wide open throttle to maybe being able to hold 6000rpm..., stop and shut it off for a minute or two and it’ll do the same, run amazing for a few minutes until really hot and under load at full throttle/rpm and bog out again., repeat..
Talked to Greg at Jaws, Linderman, made programmer adjustments as recommended, even leaned it out a little extra at the top rpm to test on the hill.. better but still bogged. No O2 sensor or egt, just wondering if anyone has thoughts on what to check or adjust..
-will check exhaust valve cables/servo as mentioned in another post
-thoughts on the air intake scoop with the Jaws set-up?
-reeds? Seems like not the issue as it runs like a top at all rpm until really hot
-will change out plugs
-boondocker controller? Acting up when hot? (Mounted under goggle bag in front of the bars), or a bad ground etc?

Just looking feedback or ideas, especially if you’ve had the same set up and same issues. When it’s running solid it pulls like a freight train, but really sucks when you’re in chest deep pow on a climb and it bogs, makes it a challenge to not get stuck, gotta stay on your toes!

Haven’t pulled anything off yet, had thought reeds for sure when it happened first time but like I said it runs great again thru all rpm range once it is shut off and ran again. Am definitely going to check them tho, thanks for the input.

Do you have your throttle safety switch hooked up? Try disconnecting it

Yes it’s still connected, will try next time I am out. Did have a couple times where it’s had issues moving off the line, snow was deep and kept clearing the thumb throttle, did consider that or the tether causing issues but only really having issues at wot, will definitely give it a try disconnecting it. Thanks! Is it just a connector to unplug inside the throttle block?

First of all, make sure you have the right pipe. Where did you get the Boondocker from. It may be hooped. I hope you got your pipe right from Jaws, not from a store from the street. I didn't get mine from Jaws and it was a mistake. That screwed my winter up. I tested and tested but couldn't get my fueling right. After many, many phone calls, Greg said that I have the wrong pipe. Sent it back, I got a new one, and no more problem. When Greg does his testing with his pipes, he uses Boondocker. When I put my Big Sark on with PC, Auto Tune and POD, it took out/fried my ECU. The way yours is acting, sounds like the way mine was.
Greg swears by the intake scoop, Brent says its a waste of time. When I put my pipe on my 14 HCR, I left the scoop in place, but drilled intake holes through the sides, and top. I took it out, put it back in to try to compare, and I never could tell a difference by the seat of my pants.
If you are smelling fuel, its not the reeds, has nothing to do with it. You either have a leak on an injector, or over fueling. Is your Y pipe wet. Pouring out fuel..

Did some routine maintenance along with a few other things and have to say this sled has never ran so strong! Pulled reeds and changed out one petal set (don’t think really needed it but had a scuff on a corner and was that deep into it so why not), put in new plugs, cleaned the clutches and adjusted the deflection, and finally did a wildchild steering post bushing upgrade (just cause it was overdue), but..100% sure the issue I was having was a combo of 2 issues: 1st issue was an alignment issue of the pipe to the y-pipe (Had the big shark on my 14 and no issues, but the pipe support (rubber saddle) mount on a 17 holds the main chamber of the pipe up causing a minor alignment issue at the y-pipe donut..) the 2nd issue was the exhaust springs being old and weak. Ordered up and new donut from Jaws and re-installed with new springs, made minor adjustments to the support saddle, and just like that..this thing absolutely rips again. Thanks for the input on potential issues, may end up pulling the throttle safety switch as it has given grief in the nipple deep pow days, has only given me grief just off a dead start tho (my tether works so wouldn’t feel unsafe without the throttle safety switch not functioning).
Just thought I’d post the findings as the issues I had seemed so intermittent, but the lack of proper backpressure explains exactly the issues I had.
