I spent a few hours yesterday trying to install my X3 track with 7T Avids on my 2014 and could not get the drive shaft to pull over on the quick drive side. I got it as far as just entering the bearing and tried tightening a bolt against a backing plate to pull it over but still no go.

I know this is a tough job and I've changed 2.5 in tracks before but what's the trick? Right now I'm thinking I might need to remove the drive plate but I'm not too keen to start playing with the glue. Any help appreciated.

What you need to do is pull the shaft back out and remove the c clip on the case side lower bearing and push the bearing out the from the back side. Then install the driveshaft back in this will give you more room to get the external part of the driver to drop into the window of the track, Then do up the clutch side bearing cup but leave it kinda loose for now. Then have your buddy hold the shaft on the case side center in the bearing cup on the case then use a socket on the outer race of the bearing and slide it on the shaft and then drive it into the case**** don't forget to put the snap ring back in*** AND UR IN. ****** NOTE ****** undo the screw on the side plastic on the case side and just pull it down this will allow you to get a clean shot at driving in the bearing you can use a long 1/2 inch extension with the right size socket to fit the outer race of the bearing.

did u roll the drivers inside the open track first before install, just to make sure avids are centred.

yup. Everything is bang on center.

Only thing i might might have messed up is during my first attempt before taking the bearing out, I tried pulling the shaft over using the bolt in the shaft and a large washer. Some of the threads on the bolt flattened out a bit so I'm hoping I did not do any damage to the threads inside the shaft. I'll see how it goes once I get a new bolt from the dealer and install the quick drive pulleys.

I'll add something about driving that bearing in: leave it in the freezer for an hour to shrink it a bit- it will drive in a lot easier. If its super tight, you could heat the housing a bit as well to expand it.
