Not sure about the Dodge? but my Duramx block heater wont even turn on until -20 even if its plugged in, (which it hasn't hi yet).
I don't plug mine in until it gets that cold out.

thats strange, i thought the duramaxes had regular plugs so they work at warmer temps... if not just cut the plug off and wire in a new one, did that for a friend and dummy started plugging in her Tahoe at +0 temps and after she was having issues...

The reason you plug a vehicle in (especially a diesel) is so that the initial cold start isn't so hard on them.
Quicker warm up, quicker oil lubrication (not the same thing as oil pressure). I don't realy give two hoots about creature comfort or worry about if it will start
at -30 ( It has and will ) I am concerned about shortening the eng. life on cold starts. Diesel engines cost wayyyy too much money to have to repair before they hr. out
Just my opion, having worked on diesels for 30+ years.
