I am posting this on Karl's behalf, he is looking for direct responces from our snowmobile community.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is trying out a new way of communicating with backcountry travellers. Using photos of actual recent incidents and terrain, weather, snowpack, and avalanche data, we produced an Avalanche Incident Photo Analysis. This is currently in the form of a PDF document found on the main page of the CAC website at Welcome to avalanche.ca. You can access the document directly by clicking on this link:

We recognize certain data such as trigger, activity, location, etc. commonly found in this kind of analysis is not contained in this product. This is a pilot project and we are assessing public response before increasing the depth or breadth of analysis. If we can find the funding and resources, we hope to continue this initiative and will consider expanding it in the future.

If you have comments, suggestions, or questions about this initiative, contact Karl Klassen: kklassen@avalanche.ca.

This is great news for sledders! We have suffered a bad year and education of the general population is one of the key things that we struggled with (it seems) this year. Having the CAC directly involved with sledding and our sport is a great thing, hopefully, we as sledders, will capitalize on this opportunity and not let it pass us by.

There is some great knowledge to be had from the CAC and we should take full advantage of every opportunity. This is a committment to the sustainability of our sport and to have sledders involved in something that will hopefully bring awareness to other sledders and extend that knowledge to those who can and should be using it. If it prevents one death, it is worth the effort.

 to the CAC. Let's work with them to improve our sport!

Thanks for the posting and while I agree that the internet is a useful tool for sharing information I think CAC should also look at other media to get their message out. Articles in snowmobiling or outdoor adventure magazines as well as local newspapers come to mind.
