There was a guy that i know that was killed this past winter in an avvy, he had an avy bag.. He was riding with some inexperienced riders.. They weren't able to find him fast enough.

You definitely take your chances in the steep and deep, as tons of snow tend to beat a guy up bad. I'd suppose nothing would have helped that guy out, anything that can up your odds is definitely the way to go.

I always try and get guys to make the most of those 'socked in days' - instead of sitting around sulking cause the weather sucks go hide a beacon and practice. As someone who has taken the avy course - it is ALARMING how many guys think just having a beacon is good enough. It is somewhat humorous to watch the chaos as people fumble with beacons and go walking in every direction - then I remember these are the people that maybe searching for me. Get serious about this!
