Atv salt spreader using sand salt mix

Not sure if this is the right place for this, if not please move it.

I was thinking of getting a salt spreader or the ATV but I use mainly the sand salt mixture that the municipality provides for my driveway

Does anyone have any experience with the salt spreaders using the sand salt mix?

I know a couple of guys with the ATV ones. They've had zero luck getting them to spread anything at all in the winter.
