Something you may want to consider before buying a truck is the out of province saftey inspection. If you buy here in AB then move to BC and look to get it insured. It is a pretty strict inspection and probably cost you another couple hundred bucks just to get it looked at. If i was you i would be shopping in BC for the truck if you arent already.

Also i owned a '96 ext cab short box 4X4 it was a nice looking and good truck to drive unloaded. It only had a 305 and that thing couldnt pull the hat off your head. I would recommend going for the 350 for sure.
