I would go with a M1000. I rode a 08 M1000 162" and loved it. (unfortunatly it got stolen last week) A lot of the guy I talked to on M8's were happy with them but wished they had just a little bit more power. The weight differance is miniscule. 8 or 9 lbs i believe. as for the 08/09, my next one will be an 09. they got rid of the diamond drive system (not a bad system at all mind you) and have the electic reverse (rer i believe, could be wrong about the actual name though) and i comes with a telescopic handle bar, make for a more comfortable trail ride up and down.

6 belts would be a little pricey. bought my M1000 at the end of Nov. a/c want 200 per belt now. due to the falling canadian dollar of course. if i had to pay for 1200 in belts i'd be more than upset.

I've had an '07, '08, and '09 M1000's. The '07 was hard on belts untill I aligned the clutches myself then it wasn't bad. As for the '08 500miles same belt and so for on the '09 600 miles same belt with no signs of wear. He should align clutchs himself if his dealer can't seam to do it. Havn't ever rode M8 but love the power and torque of the M1000

Six belts? did it ever occur to him that something was wrong after belt number two. I dont understand why people dont take it upon themselves to fix their problems.

My buddy has an 07 M1000 153 and has blown up both clutches and the diamond drive. I don't think he's blown belts though.

I have a 09 M1000 LE and just love it. Very good power stock and with a little fine tuning with the suspention very good handling . Just over 400 miles and still on the same belt. And only rode in the mountains. I think if your having belt trouble it must be a alignment problem.

I have an 08 M8, i really like i went 1200 miles on the oringal belt before went blew apart.

I you are looking 08 or 09, i would go with the 09, the powder claw track hooks up alot better and with the snopro you get the telescope handlebars.

well as far as sleds go they all have there problems it dosnt matter what brand you have you are either lucky and get one that dosnt give you issues or your unlucky and you are continuously repairing it my self i think so far im lucky because i havent had to repair anything yet(knock on wood) i only been adding little updates to make it better
