2012 electric start not working

So my electric starts not working. When i push the start button I can hear and see it turning but it wont pop out and engage with the primary. Is there a cheap fix for this before I buy a new one? Also thinking of going with a pull start conversion kit. Are these hard to install for beginner mehanic? One last thing I live in the prairies and have my clutch pins at 1 and am getting 7900 rpm. Is this what it should be seems a little low to me thanks.

Spray some wd40 on the shaft of starter drive, and work it out and in

Also make sure your battery is charged. Weak battery will spin the starter but not engage it.
