Hey all!
I have a Polaris Dragon 2008 800, my first sled that I’m learning on. I’ve rebuilt the top end with a fix kit, replaced the voltage regulator with the 2013 updated part, replaced my fried ECU and disconnected the handlebar warmers.

Last year last day riding my clutch bolt sheared off and I was towed town from the chalet. I taped my vents as best I could and put the sled in a heated shop to dry out when I got home. Replaced the clutch bolt then forgot all about the money pit as I recently moved to the Kootenays.

Now that it’s snowing I started it up and the display and headlights are flickering on and off. WTF. I’m not very mechanically inclined and live 5 hours from the nearest shop. My boyfriend is a mechanic but has told me that if I don’t show initiative into fixing my sled then I’m not going sledding with him.

I have read online about some yellow wires and a stator but it is Latin to me. Can anyone help me figure out what’s going on? Or does anyone know anyone in the West Kootenays who I can pay to help me?

Oh the good ole Dragons. I feel your pain and lots of us have been there. Sounds like you covered a lot of the usual things. The VR was one of the biggest issues. Being that you did that already it sounds like you need to test your stator and that’s where the yellow plug comes in. It’s the main electrical from your stator to the rest of your sled. It starts on the same side as your pull start recoil and ends up by the VR on top of the clutch guard. You can check the plug to make sure it’s not melted or not fully clipped. If it looks good then you need to unclip it and measure the ohms resistance across the wires. I have taken a picture of the procedure from the shop manual. I can send you a pdf copy if you PM me your email address. If that tests good then you need to start looking for a wire rub or something shorting out. Thumb warmer, tail light or anything else that is connected and drawing power not necessary to run the sled. Check where your hood opens and the wire harness bends. Can take some work to find the issue. Definitely might help if you can find someone who owned one of these to help you.

Since you did fix kit and had everything apart, check your ground wires to the sled chassis. Loose ground could cause issue too.

The first thing I would do is find every electrical connector plug and unplug and plug them back in a few times. Take the clutch cover off as there are a bunch of connectors under there. It's could just be some corrosion within the connector from getting all that snow in there and then sitting all summer.
