Hi Guys,
I need to replace the 800HO in my 04 Summit. Was the 800HO the only engine available in the 04 Summit or was the 800R available back then?
Is it possible to put an R in a 04 or which is the better engine and would it be worth it?
Thanks in advance for your advice

The 800ho came out in 03 and went to 06 the 800R was introduced in 07. In order to put an 800r in you sled i belive you have to change just about everything electrical, carbs, pipe. It would be much easier and cheaper to put an 800HO back in.

I owned a 2004 800 HO Summit X 151 and it worked pretty well. It was gutted of all foam, light wt. can, heavy duty rear springs & DJ's kit. I had it jetted down 2 sizes when I rode it in the mtn's-crisp.
In fact the fellas I ride with still comment on how well my old sled worked. I let it go with around 5500 kms pretty well all mtn. time. It never gave me any problems. I ride an 09 XP now, and I still miss the old Rev on some days. What I don't miss is the fuel consumption...the xp is probably 25% better.
Good luck with the rebuild.

my 2004 rev summit x 144 800 ho is great, luv it.this 800 ho has 13.5 to 1 compression in o4,do dropped compression to 13.0 to 1 in 05 due to people blowing them up in lower elevations,so 800 ho in 04 was the best, droped 1 jet size runs great.i live at 2300 ft and live on acerage out by cooking lake, have raced them all,the last edition 800 r is a joke, beat them all but they were 151.looks like will have tough time with new e-tek800 lol, havnt race one yet.note; if you find a 2004 800ho motor, dont over rev it past 8400 rpm, this prematurely wears out motor, and back in 04 they made chrome rings that replaced some rings that were flaking, if you could find these rings you will have a rocket.should replace rings every 800k.back in day racers would change out chrome rings every race.hopes this helps, dont let my led tail light blind your budys on the lake.

Best bet bud is to order a short block from brps rebuild center. comes with 1 year warranty. and depending on the shape of your old core they credit you up to 700$ for it. have never had an issue
800R wasnt realeased till 07
