Well I figured it all out last night....and no left over parts.
Carb is back together. Man was it gummed up from the old fuel.
Next step is to find new air and gas lines and possibly carb boots, install and see if it will start.

Curtis, have you tried Motorcycle Recycle in Stony Plain, they MAY have the boots you require, and could you just use bulk line for your air/fuel lines?

nope.... not this time :)

I have a site in the USA that carries most of what I will need (new).
There is also myoldyamaha out if Calgary for new and used parts.
I will add your suggestion to the list.
Air and Fuel hoses can come from local auto stores.
Will be working more on it next week.

The floats in the carbs on those year of bikes were bad for getting saturated and no longer acting as a float. I would test them in some gas before re-installing the carbs and make sure they still float because I know how much fun those carbs are to put in !!!!

Now you tell me ... After I've re-assembled the carb ---- lol
Great idea, will do that test next week, worth the 15 minutes to tear them apart. As you said, taking them off the motor is brutal.

I don't need any more life lessons, rather resolve off the hop.
Do how long do you let it float and if it fails...what then?
Muchly appreciate the insight, well actually my son will, I won't be riding this one.

If they sink, then the hunt for floats is on. Yamaha doesn't make them anymore for some of the carbs...just a thought, are they Mikuni carbs or the dreaded Hitachi carbs. I know parts for the Hitachi carbs are impossible to find, Mikuni are eaisier to find parts for.

Those were the carbs that had the float issues, the floats are made of a cork like material that over time loses its buoyancy and I know from experience parts dont exsist. I hope yours test good.

Almost bought one of those with brother and pops as the family bike back in about 2003. Ended up with an 86 Shadow 700 instead.

I bought it in 1991. Treated me well for all the years I rode it. Kids and life parked it until now.
Funny that is one of the same kids that made me want to park it, is wanting to bring it back to life.
