how many times have you guys had to tow or be towed out or even leave your sleds in the mountains before
A couple of days ago me and my dad and two of his friends were in hassler and a dragon that was with a different group but we stopped to see if we could help, died the ecm melted so we had to brrreak trail out the back way just for him to end up leaving it in there not complaining about the trail breaking part but i couldnt imagine leaving my sled in the hills
and ive never broken down in the mtns

Funny you mention a dragon braking down and melting the ecm. Last time I was out sledding the same thing happened to my dragon, but we pulled it out. Only time I've had be pulled

When I go on trips we have a rule that if a sled goes down everyone has to pay for the heli retrieval. This way it is a couple hundred bucks fro everyone and not a grand for one guy. Had to fly 2 out over the years. Both times the there was absolutely no way you could tow out the sled.

I have been pulled out of places for snapped steering columns, engine failures, out of gas, destroyed front ends, and probably a few other reasons that I forgot.

snapped my steering post twice on my old zx back in the day. 2 nicest days of the year too! and blew a chaincase on that same sled just as we started heading down the trail. talk about luck! my group has been pretty fortunate, maybe its there awesome mechanic. we all ride 50-70 days a season way in the backwoods and never a serious tow or chopper yet. knock on wood.

2 tows and one heli lift. 2 Artic cat cranks and one Polaris crank. Got lucky on the heli lift, way out on the Pemberton ice cap. Had just poured their heli pads so 400$ cash.
Crawled out 20km in limp mode on Sat.

88 Yamaha 440 SS - my first sled, second run out and wrapped it around a tree up in quartz in 92
92 polaris 500 - helied of revy in 95, broken crank
95 polaris 500 - towed it 3 times out, melted holes right through the pistons each time
95 580 XLT - towed it three times, piston ring locator came out first round, second was a fueling issue, third was a bottom end bearing went at 9500rpm
900 thundercat - split the case back in beaver mines. took a ring out in silver mines past 100hp hill. broke a chain up enterprise in nelson.
97 700 rmk - melted the brake on pemberton, this was stupid. overheated and split a rad hose up in rocky point near radium.
98 700 rmk - melted an engine out on the pipeline in fernie back by china wall.
08 800 summit - smoked a rock on may long at the silvermine by snowman pass, this was a nasty tow out when your 3 mountain ranges back.
08 800 summit - another ring went on a wiesco piston up on quest in sicamous.

Silver Mine is not a great place to tow out of!. I might have been looking for a heli flight for that one!

Happens to EVERYONE sooner or later!!Also if you laugh at someone getting towed get your rope out, karma's an angry bitch!! 94 ext efi blown piston at wind tunnels in clemina in 94 2000 800 xcr long tracked front end found a rock in clemina limped it out in 2000 the same sled blows engine on boulder mountain in revy next year, towed out 2009 m1000 finds tree on lucielle in 2010 limped out, find out I have a fracture on my shin two days later! That makes for a long ride home especially with the wife being a nurse bitching from the back seat all the way home that ' it's probably broke'!!But I didn't want ruin everyone else's ride after it happened!!So sooner or later everyone has their turn!!

an those wannabe mountain riders wonder why we carry sooo much in our packs??? A heli ride is easy but when the towing is called into play it can and may be a real eye opener!

Sometimes, 2 sleds in tandem may be required to pull a hill. I've seen some Yami's that require hand pulling up the hills.....and that wasn't pleasant.

If one gets it to the main trail, sometimes a groomer operator can/will pull it out for a quantity of his favorite relaxant.....just saying!

2006 Tabor Mountain in Prince George. About 3' of fresh sugar took the 600 144 down a ravine and climbed back out, the Tundra didn't make it and turning the 600 around at the bottom of the ravine dug down to ground and jammed a rock between the track and tunnel cooler. Walked out and couldn't get back in for two days cause it dropped to -40C.

2011 Sun Peaks buddy's stator went on his 650rxl was towing it out with my RT until it popped a coolant hose, walked out. Towed them out the next day with a borrowed zx.

2004 in hasler, stator went in my '01 'doo way back past sunshine. couldn't find the trail through wolf creek so we tried to go back the way we came, we hand bombed it up 2 bowls when we couldn't tow it and ended up leaving it at the chute coming into the aluminum bowl. we tried 6 ways from sunday with 2 sleds and no dice. went back to town, yanked the motor out of buddy's same year summit, went back sunday and swapped motors. got it running, made it up the chute into the aluminum bowl, and the stator in that motor went! couldn't tow it out of the aluminum bowl, trail was trenched out bad. left it there, went back to town and got a new stator put in my motor at highmark in Chetwynd Easter sunday (thanks ken!). went back in monday, changed the motor again and drove it out.

I had 3 broken ribs and a cracked breastplate form a bad 2 up crash that happened on the saturday trying to tow my sled out, needless to say sunday and monday were excruciating....I was with a good crew that did most of the work for me. next time it's a chopper....fawk that noise.

In 43 years of sledding I've towed and been towed more times than I care to remember for lots of different reasons. Never heli'd out though. Left sleds in the bush 2 or 3 times and walked out once. Wait, make that twice counting a broken snowcat while grooming in the middle of the night.

Had to fly out my Rev from Keystone back in 04 after hitting a rock at high speed climbing a hill. Chopper set it on my truck for me. Cost $650. Our group has been thinking of everyone donating $10-$20 every weekend towards a chopper fund. If you don't use it at the end of the year then it goes towards rooms or a party. Usually when you tow guys out it kills your day for everyone else and you burn a couple $175 belts in the process. I like the chopper idea best if its not an easy tow.

you guys ever use a snobunjee?? im tellin ya, its the cats ass. cuts the stress in half on the belt and everything else being tugged on. i swear by them now. thought they were a gimmick. we really use them to get unstuck, actually never do. just in case of a tow. been pulled out of some ch!t spots with one, made everyone there a believer. just wrap the fawker around your bars for storage.

i have video of us using one to get a down doo out of the mtns. this was WAY back and a complete ch!t show. but it got it out when most there considered it FAWKED. Wyoming:

Sleddin (The Bunjee Train) - YouTube

worked like a sling shot. the front guy would nearly get stuck but the bunjee would aid the second guy freein up the first...etc. saved that kid some major mula and didnt take all day either!
