I remember that year well. That 583 Mach1 would run with the Cat 650's at poker rallies and snow drags. Used to absolutely terrorize a particular family in the area with that sled. HaHa! The Formula Pluses we used to call Diet coke cans because they detuned them from the 88 models which was the coke cans. Good times back then.

I distinctively remember this promo tape, my buddy ended up buying a Mach1 and a Formula Plus that same year, the Plus for the wife haha. I thought it was a 617 in the Mach and the Plus was a 520?
It had a weird track size from what i remember, he paddled it up in red LOL, we had to create higher rear drop brackets to make it fit.
I was riding an 89 Yamaha Exciter 580 piped with a 136 paddled. They were commonly known as Mach tons, he sold the Plus, it was just too much for his wife and ended up with a Phazer.

617's first year was 91 in the new body design and then the 670 in 93. Plus was a 521 but detuned because it would beat the 89 Mach1 handily.

1993 Arctic Cat launch vhs. And the debut of the thundercat.

https://youtu.be/gJCBmHlFzF4

I owned 2 Thundercat a 98 and a 99 also had a Wildcat from 95 about 97.
The ThunderCat's weren't for the faint of heart and not a sled to be reckoned with at the time.
The 99 had over 175hp out of the box making it the worlds most powerful factory sled of the time.

Mine ran D&D pipes and V-Force reeds with some porting work just as a start, dynoed at CR over 200hp. Turning a 156x2"...something don't remember LOL. There were not to many chutes that it couldn't handle. It was my first big HP sled cracking the 200hp mark and going back to lower hp, well not yet.

I don’t know how many times I watched that video as a 11 year old. Lots. That same year while all my dads buddies were buying wildcats he bought a 550 pantera so he could take take me and my sister riding with my mom on a 2 up Polaris trail.. that I blew the motor on twice lol.

I always wanted a triple... Still do. They were always the wildest sounding sleds on the snow in the 90’s. But the cat triples had quite the different sound to the Polaris and skidoo. My dad ended up buying the first year mountain max 700 and he still has it just because he likes the way it sounds lol.

The factories need to bring back triples. Even if it’s just for lake racers. First factory that comes back out with a DI triple will sell lots.

Yes the triple was a very cool motor and had longer life in comparison to the twin.
The Cat triple sounded different because Cat used it in the bigger displacement motors, 800-1000cc. They had a 600 triple but it sounded like any of the other triples out there.
Most everything else Cat had was in a twin and Cat actually was the first to use big bore twins successfully.
It was years later that both Polaris and Doo put out a big bore twin and Yamaha never really did. They all had engine issues with cranks when going over the 700cc except Cat.
So Cat kept the big Tcat as reigning king of the mountains in a triple and offered a line on 600,700,800 successful twins. While the competition were trying to figure out how to keep their twins together.
OK, the Rotax were great in the rotary valve of the day but it caped out at 670... LOL. The Early 800 Rotax of the 2000 era, were a joke and the RT1000, thats a story for another day ...LOL
