Awesome spring conditions in the West Kootenay! Unloading at 5km up Goose creek (norns), little slushy but so much better then sitting at home when it's 29 degrees out :D Don't mind my buddy, he's from Ontario ha ha!

So the good - 12-15' at 7000' mid April? Yah we're still doing good and there was about 12" of fresh powder to boot! :D Lots of sun this week so probably looking at typical spring conditions this weekend. The bad - we get to go back this Sat to rescue buddies Rev after it dropped a cylinder...
Like we don't have enough of them out there already, another company wants to open one up between Ainsworth and Kokanee park and it's huge and they want EXCLUSIVE use of the cat roads which means no more sledding. I know most of you have never and will never sled there but the next one...

Not nearly as spectacular as in the spring/early summer but couldn't hike down to spot where we took the pics until the water level dropped.
View from west side of the river
Looking at the falls from the east side and access to about half way down the falls
Looking down to the bottom...

I've never seen an avy this big in person, when I could see the trees swaying and being knocked over at the bottom I knew it was huge! :D
Thankfully it wasn't last weekend when the crew was filming!
I caught this big one today up Ladybird, must have been a cornice that dropped and triggered it. Took out some big ass trees too at the bottom so this wasn't your typical slide for that area. Saw lots of last weekends tracks going into the debris at the bottom, lucky it didn't come down when...
I've got the original (non-HD) GoPro which only takes AAA batteries. Doesn't last long with Alkaline or even Nmh out in the cold and Lithium's are super expensive. Sooo, thinking of using a flat 3.7V lithium-ion rechargeable from my a point and shoot camera, solder leads on it and velcro/strap...
Got out for 2 gorgeous days of sledding last weekend, played it safe on Friday and stayed in the trees in a couple feet of fresh snow then did some sidehilling/boondocking and watched a few climbs on Saturday. Snow had firmed up overnight but not enough for me to hit the hills. Snowpack is...
Just bought a new RMK 800 and salesman tells me it doesn't come with a spare belt. How many new RMK owners have had the same experience? And just for the record, if you buy accessories with your sled, take a look at the Polaris Canada site and compare list prices. They tried to sell me a...
Alright, I know it was 3 day away from the first official day of summer but doesn't feel like it, especially when we can still go sledding on top of 8+ feet of snow! :D
Yup, sorry to say but the snowpack isn't holding up this year. Don't waste your time loading up, might as well pack the sleds up and get out the quads and boats. :D
Today (May 9)
Big Red Cats, aka Red Shutter Inn is applying to expand their tenure boundaries and construct a lodge and other buildings south of Crowe mountain. Guaranteed this is just a step toward exclusive use of the land as they will not want snowmobiles buzzing past their lodge into that area and it will...

Just wanted to inform people of the issue with riding up Porcupine near Ymir/Salmo. Once again the Beaver Mountain Snowmobile Association has entered into an agreement to ride Porcupine (Darkwoods - now owned by the Nature Conservancy of Canada). It isn't hidden info (on the BMSA site) but not...
I know this should be under ATVing, but there's a lot more happening here.
Has anyone been to the Copeland mine north of Kirkup ck? We do a lot of old mine exploring/documenting in this area of the West Kootenay, thinking of doing a trip to Revy and area next summer. Wondering how the trail...
Just saw this in the Trail times. Big Red Cats has applied for EXCLUSIVE rights to their tenure in the Nancy Greene summit area which includes
Mt. Mackie (Bugle Creek), Neptune and Crowe. This area has been open to public use since they have started cat skiing there a few years ago, but now...
