The new cam for my 1997 sportsman 500 should be coming this weekend. I'm just wondering, whats the procedure for breaking in a new camshaft? how long is the break-in period?

we did check/adjust the valves and we changed the fuel lines. i already ordered a new cam for my quad, but it should be the updated better version.

my question is, why does it seem better sometimes, than other times?

I think the exhaust lobe is worn off, because it doesn't have any power as of late, and i took it to the dealer and they said the cams gone. look at my other post on the mud pit chat titled " do i need a camshaft?" and see if that sounds like the prob

so i did a compression test on my 1997 sportsman 500. i just removed the plug and screwed in the gauge and cranked it over with the electric start. The most i got was about 70psi. what is it supposed to be? we might be putting in a new cam, is there any point in rebuilding it, or should i just...

so heres the deal, my 1997 Polaris Sportsman 500 used to do 60mph and could spin tires like nothing, because the power was there. lately it hasn't had that power, and i took it to the dealer and they looked at the carb and clutch, they put a few things in but still no good. so i took it there...

i'm thinking i'd like to buy a sport atv this summer. i'm just wondering what the ups and downs are of them. how often do you change oil, adjust valves etc. also do you only need to change engine oil or is the transmission oil separate?

I have a 96 sportsman 500 and lately i've been hearing a scraping or something hitting on the clutch cover. I haven't had time to take it off and look at it but is it maybe a problem with the clutch? I mostly hear it at low speeds. drives good other than this. What do you think? :mad:

i'm thinking of getting a 400ex sometime but i'm wondering how often should you change the oil? I would just be driving on gravel roads, grass ditches and the occasional dirt field.

I am going to get a job soon and thinking of buying a dirt bike. i was wondering what kind of work is invloved with a dirt bike? I would just be trail riding, so how often would i need to check/adjust valves, do an oil change etc.?
