The Feds stepped in here. Now you have to be "Street Legal" to ride on a forest road! It's not a county or state violation...it's a Federal crime. The Forest Service Law Enforcement officer will write us up and then it costs even more. Only good thing is in Montana you pay once and the quad is...
Still gold in them thar hills! I have a blast prospecting on my quad. I can haul lots more stuff up into the hills. Now have a sluice box,as well as the pans, and a spiral concentrator. Back breaking work fur sure....but when you see that yellow gold in the bottom of the pan, its worth the effort.
A lot of guys make the mistake of replacing the wire rope with synthetic, but don't change the rollers on the fairlead. If the rollers are chewed up from the wire, they will destroy your nice new rope. They have UHMW rollers that work better with synthetic rope. Cost me $25 to get a set. Right...
I agree with 500 King. I got the Polaris 60 inch when I bought the quad. Straight blade that's adjustable 5 ways. I added the snow flap on top and use a short synthetic rope for plowing. I switch fairleads also. For the synthetic i use UHMW rollers. Plows great!
60". I bought mine when I bought my Quad. ( 02 Polaris 500 HO ) It had a manual lift and after one season I went to a Warn 2500 to save my arm. A very good investment! After I do my driveway I do my neighbors and the road into our homes from the pavement.
Got my new UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) rollers today for my fairlead. Took wire rope off and installed short synthetic rope for plow lifting. Plow is mounted and ready for the snow that is building up as I write this. Quad is all greased. Finally mounted the Battery Tender pigtail to the...
I watch it on the 'Outdoor Channel' here. Monday is "Motorsports Monday" and they have DirtTrax/SnowTrax, Destination Polaris, Fishers ATV World, and now have a new one called 'Mudslingers'. Mudslingers is mostly trucks but has good mudboggin footage from lots of places, and include ATV/UTVs.
Gunny > You are gonna LOVE those tracks! My buddy bought a set for his AC Prowler. He and his wife both have sleds, but like going out in the S-S together and playing in the snow. Enjoy! And don't forget to post some pics!
I jacked mine up and gave it a good shot of grease to all the zerks. As soon as hunting season is over, I'll pull the wire rope off the winch and put the short synthetic piece on and mount the plow. Snowed here last night! Better get the sled ready too!!! :)
