I am new to the forum and I am looking for answers about the above-referenced Polaris, I have always run Cats and Yamahas but found a holdover deal this year on an 09 'Polaris 800 IQ for 6k!!!!!! The bad press is making me nervous about the sled...how can they be that bad and the company still remain in business? What is the truth? Are they just junk? I bought a new Yugo years ago and had great luck with that because I treated it well and I am wondering if this sled is the same thing, treat it well and it will be fine...are the complaints just a few loud unhappy riders or did this model SUCK that much?

They suck that much, if you buy it, look at putting another 1500 into motor work to make it reliable.

I had a dragon 800 rmk for 2 years and went thru 3 motors!! You will need to install the fix kit and a power commander to make the sled reliable!!

Welcome to the site! ... and yup... what he said.... my son had one and went thru 3 motors in 1500kms... after the 3rd time he traded it in so he wouldn't have to rebuild it again... BEWARE of those dragons!!

Ive got 2200 kms on my 09 dragon, never had a problem. There was a factory recall on the heads which I had done, but hadnt had a problem before or after. Such a great handling machine too

My 08 Dragon runs like a top at 2300km, in fact how many 08 sleds of any brand do you see out and about? Care to put it to the test? Just kidding, I believe a big part of the sled life has to do with how its set up and how its run. If you buy a mountain sled and use it for bombing across the lake wide open all day don't expect to keep the motor in it.

Welcome to the forum. I had an 04 Vertical Escape that I drove for one year and the motor went in the spring. After the fix, I sold it and went to Doo. I have never looked back but have read lots regarding the Polaris motors.

I can't help you with your '09 but I can say the first 4 posts are typical of what you will receive for information. Did you pull the trigger on this sled or are you just thinking about it?

I sort of agree with you about treating them right from the get-go but the Liberty motor I had was not abused and it just decided on it's own that it is time for a rebuild........end of my Polaris story....:d

There is yellow in my blood now!

Ill admit I am hoping to add a little yellow to the blood but not this year, but the 2014 is the sled to have imop. However, I agree with SWAT alot of it has to do with how you run your sled, especially the liberty. Like SWAT said rippin across an icy lake on a mountain machine is not good for it. The bigger problem again imop, is running the machine too slow on icy roads. Ya gotta pin it and its gotta be in snow, thats what the heck its made for. The other thing about the 09 dragon is that it has a digital temp gauge. Once im comfortable with the revs im getting I leave the gauge on the temp setting and every so often im peeking down there to make sure my dragonbreath isnt breathing the fire to hot. I run around 126 to 128, a little hotter since the pipe, reeds, air upgrades I did. I love the new doos but for five or six g an 09 dragon is beauty. Treat it right and it will return the favor again imop!!
