What I heard during the debate when the county put in their law, was that the river is a federal waterway, so it is not governed by local law enforcement. I ride from my back door to the river ( yes it's against the law)and get across hiway 37 then don't worry about it. Never been an issue and my tracks for sure are not the only ones down there.

i saw a few tracks crossing the sturgeon river by the golf couse along sturgeon road, but no tracks on it. I assume its frozen enough now, so should riding it be okay? I also have to get across Starkey Road and in behind RiverStone and Pinnacle Ridge which is where I assume you head north. Where do you guys get onto the Sturgeon River? and how do you cross 37? Just drive accross?

I have a straight shot down to the river, go across a couple of fields and then over 37. The river has been frozen for some time now.

This is a great post. I've been try to research local riding opportunities and this is perfert. I line in Sturgeon by the golf course and just bought my first sled. Still learning, but am looking for somewhere close to ride for a day or just a few hours. A few feilds near my place with tracks that I've hit, but I have recently heard of the sledding restrictions in our area south of hwy 37. Would be great to connect with some of you "locals" to learn the areas where sledding is ok.

I am also new to snowmobiling, i have been out on the sturgeon a couple times and have also heard of sledding restrictions in the area but didnt see any no snowmobiling signs until St albert

sturgeon road definately has them, and I think i saw them on Starkey as well.

You can ride anywhere east of Hwy 28, west of Hwy 44, and north of Hwy 37. I'd be down for a ride this weekend, but I'm still waiting on my motor and don't know if I'll have it ready for this weekend.

Hey Timbo, is that this weekend( jan8-9)? would love to see that route as I have a cabin just north of Athabasca. If I could ride from the city to cabin that would be great!!
Do you know how many km's to the town of Athabasca from Gibbons? Is it a trail or do you guys just weedle your way there with GPS?
