Installing T3 x 163 track on 165 G4 - Inquiry

I will be changing my track on my 2017 - G4 with 3" x 165 track to the trusted track that I had on my T3 in 2015. It was a 3" x 163 x 16" wide track, never had any problems with it.
I want to know what I will have to do to get this track under my sled. I want the factory skidoo replacement not an aftermarket track.

I'm guessing your idler wheels will be sucked almost all the way in. Next easiest and cheapest thing is order a t3 driveshaft with drivers. That's all you should need.

It the best upgrade in my opinion. Unfortunately from experience the rails do not work. So you need old style rails drivers and the track. We are glad we went to this extreme.

Strange that the rails won’t work, can you expand on this. I know I need different drivers and was going to switch to 8 tooth, 3 pitch drivers.

Probably too long and only going to be worse with an 8t vs 7t driver.

It is interesting why so many are going back to the T3 track. One of the best things of the G4, IMHO, is the track. The lugs are stiffer and that definitely helps with riding in the rainy Jan/Feb's that we get now. Once the snow froze, the T3 track was a pita. But, to each their own.

Lugs are falling off, cracking at the transition between lugs and track. And not from excessive speed, unless 90 km hr is too fast. When on the mountains I ride it and usually hard and don’t stop till I used all my fuel and my jerry can. I personally don’t want this track and will not replace it with the same track either.

What about a camso challenger so you don't have to change driver's or rails.....

90 km/hr on a groomed frozen trail could be the culprit. In the deep snow there is no problem unless it is rocks/stumps. What is the hurry to get to the snow? Are you afraid it will all be gone or are you just a guy that speed is therapy?

You might consider another 165" to put on your '17. The 18 and 19's are using P/N 50415386. The original P/N for the '17's was 504153572 and no longer available. Possible change in material. Easier than drivers and rails swap.

No on soft trails up. And really, I shouldn’t have to baby my sled and go 40 km up or down a trail. Typically we are about 55 - 60 km hr. And on my t3 I had 4700 km and it didn’t matter how I drove it up and down the trail or wherever, it stayed together. The new tracks are not as good and many would agree, wild rose shows? He went through a few too.

Hate to say it bud, but going back to the old track would be a downgrade. the track is one of the main reasons the 850 moves so much faster then the xm's did. I have heard good things about this camso track, But i would reconsider going back to the t3 track if i was you. Just my 2 cents

If I rode at 40-50 km/h into a zone for 30 miles I’d fall asleep, glad I’m not on a doo, I really like going fast and sounds like the g4 does not

My track was one of the few things that held together.....JK....no actually that is true.
Never an issue with the track and I'm a 80-109kph trail kinda rider, topped out at 109 after re-gear.
I ran my track as loose as possible without skipping under load which is guitar string tight but shy of piano string tight.
Had idle wheel bearings fail but track is still good.
You will miss the pull of a 3.5 pitch track if you go 3 pitch.
I'd suggest trying the newer 3.5 pitch doo track.....or even better get the other sled that has a 3.5 pitch track that can be run way looser with the 7 tooth driver and 10" rear idlers.

Yep,he had lugs come off on his 17 and 18.
Did my part supporting him today so he can afford an new track.

(Some of his employees look extra methy this year.)
