Blown away why they are doing what they did to remove motor.. Pulled a fair share of duramaxes motors and never flattened tires, never removed cab and would have motors out on the floor and replacement in in less than a eight hr day, and running in a long day
New trucks are not made to take the front clip out like the older ones Fred

Easyer to lift the cab, flat rate time sucks and have to make time some how

A friend of my brothers had a new chev 1/2 ton and the motor went in the first 10000km , gm only wanted to put a replacement motor in. He asked what a replacement motor was they told him a motor with around the same km out if a wrecked truck! He had to fight hard to get a new motor. So I would make sure they put a new crate motor in not a replacement motor!

Must have been the dealer or service manager

Cause I have put new engine's in at 159000 km lol

Now it's possible that with extended warranty they wanted to do that, have seen that before

If they put a new engine in and the tech is good and meticulous, it should be fine for years after. If the tech is a sloppy tard though, you could have little problems that will plague your truck and follow you for years. I'd go over it with a fine tooth comb and if you find things like zip ties used where clips were broken, clamps put on sloppily, and if they never detailed the engine bay or truck after, don't accept the truck back till those things are righted. It's a brand new truck and we know what they are worth new and you should expect it to be as such when you get it back. I'd also inquire about the tires. That's some BS right there unless just the one was flat........

No offence to Jeff but alot of flat rate guys cut corners to make themselves money and sometimes they aren't all that careful. Those that are good you won't know the difference after, those that aren't as good, well you'll find out soon enough. The dealership makes the difference too. Good luck.

Thanks, That's some good info in what to look for when I get it back. I raised my concerns about the back tires and they told me it was standard practice and they do it all time. I asked for new ones and they said no. What can you do? Not happy at all, been a huge duramax supporter since 2002 but definitely have lost my confidence in them.

I agree with lbz , unfortunately most guys can't make time under warranty and just spin sh!t together

Some of us good ones can do stuff, make time, and do a good job

The tires still have no idea y, like I said unless the tech was super short....

I know if this happened to me and you had issues right from 500km I would be very focused and persistent on having them give you a new truck and they can deal with that one on their own and sell it! I know 3 years ago when my chev dealer smashed my duramax while it was in for an oil change, the owner basically said, we will fix it and get it back to as good as new and they will give me a 60 day warranty on any of the work. I said right from the get go that I do not want my truck back after the damage they have done to it. I told him I wanted a cash payout and he laughed at first. Took ten days of back and forth on what he is willing to do and I stuck to my guns and said nope I want this. At the end of it I got a cash payout and striped my sled deck out and my rims and tires sold them separately and went and bought a Ford powerstroke. If you now have to sell that truck down the road I know me as a buyer would be cautious of it knowing what was done etc and your resale may take a hit. Good luck and I hope it works out for you in the end.

A buyer would have to dig pretty deep to find out this information. Not sure a dealer would release this info to a potential buyer.

Nope, call a dealer, pull the vin# and it will give a history of the any work done and they will disclose it. I was looking at a used bmw and called Calgary bmw and they gave me the history and all warranty work done right over the phone.

I have put in a claim with GM and they are reviewing the case. It will take 3-5 days till they get back to me. They asked what I wanted and told them a new truck or get my money back. If neither of those happen I will fight for extended warranty on the whole truck till 160,000 km. I know I won't get any of this but its worth fighting for. Just hoping it comes back and stays out of shop during sledding season.

I hope they do this for you. I think if you are nice and reasonable and not yelling and putting threats out there they will try and make it right for you.

I only had a minor breakdown when it went in the last time, lol. No yelling, maybe a few curse words on why this truck was back for the fifth time and nothing being fixed. Since I found out about issue with the engine I've been fine. Just want what's right!

So here's the update if anyone is interested. From what the mechanics and engineers could figure out what caused the problem was welding slag and debris that was left in machine welded pipe that goes from the manifold to the turbo on both sides of the engine. They have seen this in a few cases now where the pipe isn't cleaned and polished and missed inspection. The welding slag and metal breaks off and go through all the engine components. This is just what they told me, who knows for sure. The truck was in the shop for 25 days and the following was done based on invoice

Removed old engine and partly install new engine
wash out and inspect erg cooler
clean and make boroscope inspection on erg coolers
remove scr and inspect
remove intercooler and flush
remove rad, run water through it
fuel injector line replaced due to broken retainer
replaced #7 fuel injector
Reprogram fuel injector flow rate into dcm
Performed def fluid quality test and after treatment regen
And a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, looks like the total labour was 457 hrs, which seems excessive to me.

So putting in a claim with GM assist and they said it would get back to me in 3-5 days, well its been a month now and nothing. The warranty for new engine doesn't start over from scratch now it still from original date. I was extremly patient with this dealer and then they asked me to think hard and reply fairly to feed back survey. Well here's what i replied, truck was in your service shop 4 times before and no issues were found when motor was shoot, When asked for my tires to be inflated to 55psi all around I showed up after 25 days and they were all set different from 35-65psi, you test drove it for less then 40kms with new engine, I need to go back and get clamps put on certain hoses that you didn't have in stock, You didn't put synthetic oil back in which I paid extra at last oil change. Not big issues but enough to not give them good feedback.

On a positive I did put 1000km's on truck since I got it back and this is the longest it's ran without the engine light on,lol. Hope it lasts!!

457 hours is NINETEEN 24 hour days. If your truck was in the shop for 25 days, how on earth was 457 hours worth of work done? My guess would be more like 45.7 hours. A long block is only 27 hours.

Yeah thats what they had on invoice, doesn't matter to me I didn't pay for labour just thought it was excessive myself and quite funny.
