Can't speek for Doo but when I bought my cat 6 years ago in P.A they said they get tons of guys from saskatoon for warranty work and he didn't mind because he made an extra 10% for doing another companies machines. Not sure if he was b.s or not.

I don't like the attitudes of dealers also who refuse to do any warranty work on a product they represent, just because I did not purchase the product from them, they should have a obligatation to fix the product. Here is an example, i'm riding my doo in sicamous and it breaks down, take it to the local dealer and he tells me they wont fixit for me because I did not purchase it from them. I live in prince albert. im on holidays to ride, fix my sled please. This is only an example,it hasn't happened to me. Dealers should bend a little when a non customer arrives at there store,that person is a potential new customer willing to spend money.

Won't matter. You'll still have to register and pay the tax in the fall when the legislation comes into effect. They covered their asses pretty good this time.
Nope its a one time registration fee of $50 There are going to be so many old quads with no paper work so its impossible to force any taxation until after its fully implimented.Last time I checked Canada is a free country I can spend my money anywhere in Canada.I have bought many ATVs out of Alberta.

I registered a quad and licensed it 5 years ago for snow plowing. I was using the road system in town and needed liability insurance. My quad was an Alberta purchase and I had to basically, declare a market value, and pay the tax. Well, the motor was smoking, the plastics were quite damaged, the tires were shot, etc.. and my "market value price" was very low but accepted.

I would think a similar process would be added to the $50 registration fee for those that did not have the tax paid. The government wants and needs money.......that's the way it has been since tax collection started!

One thing to think about when buying out of province (which I do as well....screw the BC government), is that if you do plan on registering your atv you are probably better off buying it in BC and paying the 12% up front. Someone correct me if I am wrong......but the way I understand it now is that if you buy it in Alberta and pay the 5% gst and then bring it back to BC, you pay the full 12% even though you have already paid GST. At least thats what I was told. I have a 3 year old side by side that we were thinking of registering. They told me it would be the full 12% on the NEW purchase price. Bunch of friggin thieves.

Ya, good luck with that. The thieves will get their tax money, or you won't get registered.

That is fine Ken but how long will it take to get some enforcement peeps on the ground? The RCMP don't have time to doo it!

You're right Doug. They have no enforcement capability. That's one of the reasons this whole registration thing is such a joke.

It's "supposed" to only be 12% on private sales. If you buy from an Alberta dealer and pay GST it's not a private sale, so "should" only be 7%......but it is thieving BC tax rules we're talking about, so I guess we'll see.

Probably after a year of grandfather ing in they will be nailing us with tax.It was in the news last week of a one time $50 fee.

The $50 is just the registration fee. They already have processes in place to collect the tax. If you don't have paperwork they'll assess it at market value. I really wish I was wrong about this.

Anyway, there's already another thread about this so..........:focus:

Everyone comparing a car dealership to a Powersports dealership is plain out to lunch!! Powersports dealerships get SLAMMED twice a year... Start of summer... And start of winter. It's very hard to keep enough staff around all year! Then in the start of the winter... You have hundreds of NEW customers to look after as WELL as the previous customers that need to get their machines ready for whatever season is upcoming! It doesn't matter if you drive across town or drove across the country to purchase... The dealerships have a responsibility to give priority service to the customers that purchased there! Most customers become friends... Developing a relationship with your dealership. People take it personal... It isn't. If I buy my machine somewhere... And I bring it in to get serviced... Of course I would expect them to get it in and out as soon as possible!! This is why I keep returning! A dealership will never turn down work... However if you bought a machine somewhere else... And bring it in at the start of winter for a big job... They aren't going to tie up a technician that could be assembling machines for people that have signed a deal on a machine... They have been waiting MUCH longer than you have in that case! These are all pretty rare occurrences...but in your case.... Yea man.. You are going to get bumped pretty good. There are dealerships around Alberta that were storing sleds in the ditch outside their building.it gets crazy!... People put down deposits... And they wait a LONG time for their machines... And as soon as the first guy gets one and tells his buddy... It's open season with the target on the dealers back. You HAVE to have your ducks in a row... And you better be able to hold up your end of the deal... And YEA... That means priority attention!

Makes sense. Fact is that at certain times, dealers are busy. Any businessman will have to make decisions when it's busy. Who are they going to give priority to if they have two machines come in that need work, a customer they know and has purchased there before, or a stranger they don't know? In my business, I don't hesitate to give my longer term clients priority than a new client I don't know. That longer term client has earned the right to priority in my mind. Don't see why it would be any different with a dealer.

I understand the back of the line theory especially with when someone doesn't buy from the dealer they are now getting service from, but what is to be expected if they do go in for service? Do I keep my spot starting at the back of the line or does it end up being 'we'll get to you when we're done with our customers. Even the ones that came after you?' It would suck to miss out on a part of the season because the dealer keeps bumping you back and back and back because buddy shows up on Thursday and needs to be out on the weekend. Meanwhile your sleds been in there for 2-3 weeks on something you scheduled.

Just wondering if his has ever happened to someone or know of it happening. Buddy is shopping around for a new ride next and found a great price back where he grew up. Called around locally to se if they would match and local dealers say no way! And all the vin#'s on sleds sold through that place will be "black listed" because he's selling so much cheaper than anyone else is willing to. Some dealers said to not even bother trying to bring it in for warranty work cuz the answer will be NO! I found is hole situation both comical and strange. I understand wanting to support local and all but can a dealer refuse/seriously delay you service because you bought somewhere else?

Original post was about TOTAL REFUSAL to work on his sled if he bought from the dealer selling 2015 Skidoos for
less $$, s than the other dealers.

Thats the lame part, I could see delaying his service like mentioned, loyalty should be rewarded. On the flip side if the dealer does service the sled and treats him right next year maybe he will snow check from him and his buddies also - who knows. But total refusal - that gets around as well.

People are creatures of habit treat them well and they just keep going back, treat them bad and it's Fack you buddy !
