To get your AST1 or beyond level early this fall before you hit the hills.
Avalanche.ca is one place to start. Make sure all you ride with have proper knowledge and equipment. If they don't have basic equipment and training, please encourage them to get it now.
Lets all be 100% safer this season so we can enjoy un -regulated snowmobiling in the mountains for many years to come.
Sled safe!!

If there is a group interested we will be happy at Mountain Magic to provide the space for a course. Let us know at the shop and we will put something together.

we offer AST 1 courses in Golden. That's probably the closest real mountain learning you can get to Calgary. you could take courses that are closer, but would not be held in a mountain backcountry situation. I think you would get more out of a course held in the mountains, plus it's an excuse for a weekend away!

Zac's Tracs Avalanche Training - website
The website isn't quite complete for the season, but pretty close. If you find any glitches...please let me know!

A unique evening session has been arranged for Calgary and Edmonton in mid-November. Zac's and the ASA have invited an avalanche forecaster from the CAC to share their insights into the 2008-09 season. This is a great opportunity to learn about the patterns that the professionals found: snowpack, weather, terrain, human factors...

As details are confirmed they will be updated to these webpages:
