We where there Thursday from the BC side, didnt stay the night. There was a group that had just arrived from the Alberta side, they where having to clean up after someone else.

Some of the live trees around the cabins are getting stripped for firewood aswell this will not help our cause either.

We need to take care of these places, as the powers that be are looking for reasons to kick us out.

Have a safe and happy 2011 sledding season everyone.

Ya we were in during the week from the B.C. side and couldn't belive the mess that was at the lake cabin. Sorry we didn't clean it up but only have enough room to pack out what we pack in. Left a message in the log book about it and also liked the inteligence of the riders that signed the log book before the park was open to sledders.:nono: Sure was a cold ride out on Thursday. Still lots of rocks around but had a good ride up Flattop.

what was the snow like?

Theres snow, not settled and not deep enough to cover rocks properly. Enough to ride in though, just have to be a little carefull.

The overcast pic was taken in March and the bright pic last Thurs from the gully up to Flattop, you can see from the treed area in the centre/ish of the pics how much more snow it gets.

Just got back from Kakwa, from the AB side...

Wow, I've never seen such little snow out there. The trail in was well groomed until the Border, then it turns rough. (not as rough as the good old days in the early-mid 90's when the trail was groomed once in a blue moon)

We ended up ripping a heat exchanger off on a rock near Cecilia lake, Bad Eats!!!

We followed the river back and it was in great shape with the lack of snow.

Not much we can do about the conditions...but I wish there was something we could do about these no-brains f%&@ing up the cabin!!! They need to realize that riding in Kakwa Provincal Park is a privilege and not a right!!! Chit like this will ruin it for everyone.

Thanks for the updates guys, the snow will come...

BC rules say that the club is not allowed to groom on BC side until there is a minimum of 1 meter at the border. At the momment, there is 70cm. As for the river, I have never heard that you were not allowed. We have all the time.

Rode yesterday, 3-4 ft fresh (almost too deep!!). Trails groomed to the lake now. -30 in parking lot, -5 at cabin. Lake is covered with waves of powder, no trails were broke in yet not even the river bed.

We were there all weekend long. -30C all weekend long. About 2 ft in the parking lot. We got stuck and helped out a few other guys. Was told that the lake was treacherous with knee deep flood water. Be careful out there. Didn't get to ride but the kids zoomed around the parking lot and the airport strip.

Kakwa has no lodging, unless u want to stay in GP, then drive 2.5 hrs(one way) to the staging area. All of us locals stay in our sled camps that we drag in and out of there every year, or guys just do day trips.

Dave - how was your ride.
Hey - I recognize that picture.

Hey Freddy! The -30 scared us away, didnt even unload the sleds, hung out in a couple sweet camps for a while...rememeber when we did that -30 ride a couple years ago into Ruth? It was a tough call, but it was still better than a day of working!!
