I've tried to figure out where the dark area is north west of edmonton and can't decide where it is. According to the chart it has 50cm of snow. Any ideas???? I thought either whitecourt, alberta beach or somewhere just south of swan hills but judging by peoples posts on this section there isn't 50cm of snow anywhere. So whats up.. Kinda wana go riding this sunday but not sure of where to go.

Here's the link.

Thanks for the responses, can anyone confirm or rule out that whitecourt/swan hills/goose tower has this much snow. I've heard people say they need more but maybe for swan hills 50cm isn't enought to cover up stumps and other land mines.

The area your looking at is just north/west of Swan hills and there is about 50cm of snow there. By the looks of the front end of my sled  I can tell you that 50cms is NOT enough snow to cover all the stumps, trees and rocks and such. It might be alright for a trail ride but thats it. Don't be fooled by all the hype. Good Luck and Ride Safe.

What about ditch banging. There has to be some side roads that are rock/stump free to put 50 miles on. Starting to get desperate here.

No problem up at the goose. but stick to the main logging roads. there not plowed and you can put on lots km. lots of deep snow to play in just off to the sides, and swamp meadows. If you cross thur a cut block just be carefull.:d

Just a little bit. Tie rod, belly pan, bent the bottom of the tunnel into the brake disk, front bumper, lower front cowling below the hood, exhaust springs. The good news is she BUFFED right out nice and I'm ready to rock Blue River.
Thats enough of these local "snow shortage" rides for me for awhile.

ah, glad she "buffed out"...lol. why does it hurt more when you do it close to home as opposed to doing it in the mountains? bent stuff out there too, but always come home smiling.....:d

I had a "local" incident yesterday. Without much snow, the plastic doesn't hold very well. And the aluminum bars fold pretty quick too. I am making the best of the idiotic mistake I made by doing a color change on my 08. I am getting black side panels and white hood and console. I will post pics once I have all of the new plastic installed. The crappy part is that the right headlight attaches to the silencer, and the silencer standoff broke, so looks like a new silencer for me. And then the left side headlight broke where it attaches to the console. One of the mounts for the windshield support had to break instead of popping out like the other 2 did. Even the "M" and "S" buttons on the gauges disappeared when the gauge ring broke and popped off. Here's my list of replacement parts (roughly $870 + GST):

860200089 17.49 Windshield Support - Black
517304030 119.99 Panel - LH - Black
517304029 119.99 Panel - RH - Black
517304108 139.99 Hood - White
860200239 11.99 Panel Attachment - Black
517304115 124.49 Center Console - White
506152191 67.49 Handlebar
732610072 23.29 Push Nut (x17) 1.37ea
517303603 33.49 Indicator Support
415129347 11.99 Speedo Button
415129348 7.49 Ring Gauge
508000607 58.49 Silencer Assembly
515176363 74.99 Headlight - LH
506152371 45.99 Heated Film (2 Piece) 2009 Part
506152360 3.49 Insulant 2009 Part
572051500 2.08 Handlebar Cap (2 Piece)
506152226 6.99 Grip (2 Piece)

Definately not worth the risk when climbing with small amounts of snow.

No that dark spot is up by swan hills, actually if you drew a line in between fox creek and swan hills its right along that line, I even emailed a person from the weather network a couple years ago to find out where that spot is and it was swan hills area
