I am in the market for a new atv. Currently my choices are a 2009 Polaris sportsman 400ho with 25 inch mud lites, 12v adapter, rear winch, extra lights and front and rear bash bars also has a box on the back and gun rack. Has 2000km. The other option is an outlander 400 2007 with a two up Seat and winch on the front. Which one should I get? Which has more power?

Are they the same price? What's the km on the can am? If it's roughly the same price and km then I'd probably pick the can am. Good tires can get you through a bunch but a good winch can get you though even more.

It depends on the shape. If they are in comparable shape, I'd take the canned-ham over the poo-poo. ...but that's just my preference.

Really, you should probably see what kind of shape they're in and then pick the best of the two. Do thinks like look for mud in the airbox (a definite sign to run away), check ball joints / bearings / tie rods, look for signs of abuse, check that the brakes work well - all really quick and easy things to check.

Check the A arm bushing closely.
A common wear item that is overlooked.

Pros and cons on both machines.

Also check the rads for mud build up

Don't forget to ask if it uses any motor-oil between regular changes. No one needs an oil burner.

Take them for a ride to make sure every thing works and that it feels right in handling.

Okay they are both in great shape, the Polaris has a much better ride and is more powerful, the can am is 4000 and the Polaris is 3800 it's also higher.

Oh and the poo is 1779 km, the can am has 5993km, I should add that the poo is much more nimble and zippy.
