Trouble shifting gears

Hi, I have a 1987 Yamaha 350 Big Bear 4x4. It's very hard to shift to the next gear up. I almost have to stop to shift up. I noticed that there is a Nut that secures a screw near the transmission with arrows pointing out increase/decrease. I have an owners manual that I bought on E-bay, but there is no mention of this adjustment. Anyone have the same problem?? Anyone know what this increase/decrease does?? Thanks in advance.

That may be a clutch adjustment, a Haynes manual may be your best friend.

That is the clutch adjustment. Back the lock nut off and tighten the screw till it just bottoms out. Back the screw out 1/4 turn and tighten the lock nut. Shifting should be easier.
