Trimming rails??? or mount further back

3" pitch 8 tooth Avid extrovert drivers on a polaris edge with the Avid extended chaincase. Is it a must to trim the rails and install the "anti-stab kit" ?? or can you just mount the skid 2.5" back and have no issues?
